Everybody wants to be healthy and have a body that functions well. Chiropractic can help you to do this. Chiropractic care is about restoring and maintaining good health by having a properly functioning nervous system, without the use of drugs or surgery. It is totally natural and also one of the fastest growing health care professions in the world.

Every function in your body is controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. Together, this system is called the nervous system. It is protected by your skull and all the bones in your back, which make up your spine, which is why chiropractors deal with the bones and joints in your back as well as the rest of your body. The nerves carry the messages from the brain to all the organs of your body such as your eyes, heart, liver, kidneys and reproductive system which controls and regulates digestion, heart rate, blood pressure, and many other bodily functions.

If your nervous system is impaired or something is causing it to not function properly, it can result in a wide range of signs and symptoms, some of which you may notice and some of which you may not. Chiropractors are therefore consulted for a wide range of reasons. Some people want to remove pain and stiffness in their bodies, others for ease of symptoms from conditions such as asthma or indigestion, while others find that chiropractic care gives them improved concentration and a better nights sleep. Because your nerves help to control every organ and function in your body, anything that interferes with this has an effect on your general health. Chiropractors can help to remove this interference without the use of drugs or surgery. The word Chiro is a Greek word meaning “done by hand”.

What do chiropractors do?
Chiropractors focus on the biomechanics of the body such as joint motion and how your neck, back and pelvis are moving. By helping to restore proper spinal alignment, we improve nervous system function as well as help those who are experiencing pain. Chiropractors take a detailed health history and perform a full physical exam to find out how your body is functioning. They then locate those areas of your spine that may not be moving correctly and the areas where your nerve supply may be compromised. We then correct these areas by using the technique, which is best suited to you.

“Chiropractic adjustments” are made to the level of your spine that needs it using a variety of techniques. This may be done using only the chiropractors hands or by using the aid of special tables and some instruments. Chiropractors are trained in a variety of techniques so they are able to use the one that is best suited and that will be most effective for you.

Chiropractors are highly trained, primary contact health care professionals. To become a chiropractor, you must complete a 5-year full-time tertiary degree, specialising in anatomy, biomechanics, biochemistry, neurology, philosophy, psychology, physics, physiology, radiography, radiology, along with spinal analysis and adjusting procedures. Many chiropractors also hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related health field. At the end of this 5 year degree, they are awarded the title “Doctor of Chiropractic.”

Who can benefit from chiropractic care?

Everyone and anyone can benefit from chiropractic care. Chiropractic is not just about easing back pain, it is about general good health. Symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, headaches or pain and numbness in your arms and legs are not normal. They may be due to impaired nervous function and this is what chiropractors specialise in. Many people are seeking chiropractic care to maintain best possible health. Just like getting your car serviced regularly, you want to service and maintain the health of your body before it all breaks down!

Many professional and elite sports teams and players see chiropractors so they can boost performance. Research has shown it helps athletes with faster reaction and recovery times.

Everyone from children to the elderly can benefit from having a body that is free of interference. Trauma, toxins in our environment and stress are part of everyone’s lives. To remove the effects of these on your body, it’s a good idea to consider seeing a chiropractor.
