Auckland Tamil Association dedicated to community service

Auckland Tamil Association on Saturday, June 2 hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) setting new goals for the team towards the service of the community.

Vai Ravindran continues as the President of the Association while a few new faces have been added to the executive members and advisory team of the community organisation.

The new team is dedicated to and host more events for the entire Tamil community on a much bigger scale such as Diwali, Baisakhi, Christmas, blood donation camps etc.

The new team announced at the AGM are Vai Ravindran as president, Velmurugan as vice-president, Murali Kumar as Secretary, Aravindkumar as the treasurer.

The new Executive Committee Members are Ganesh Kumar, Meenakshi, Syed Kabir, Ashwin, Nagesh with Malini Yugendran and Sonu Kumar as the advisers of the Association.

Tamil Association has hosted several significant events at different times of the year which are attended by more than 500 members of the Tamil and extended Indian community.

The Association has also come forward to help in raising funds and providing other assistance for community members in stressful situations.

In a very recent incident, a community member from Chennai, working in Napier died in a car crash in Hastings highway. The Association coordinated with the family in India, the funeral home and Indian High Commission to send the deceased’s body back to his house.

The new team’s next big community event is the blood donation drive on Thursday, July 5 at Epsom NZ Blood branch in the evening.
