In an unexpected and unfortunate incident, a father travelling to Auckland, New Zealand to meet his son and his family suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke earlier this week, and his son has appealed to the community to help raise funds to cover the hospital expenses.

Community member Bijosh B’s father K. Balakrishnan travelled from India to meet his son and his family a few months ago, and on Wednesday, May 16, Mr Balakrishnan suffered and was admitted to Middlemore Hospital in an emergency. Mr Balakrishnan is still said to be in an unstable condition.

Son Bijosh B and his family is on work visa currently and has appealed the community to support him cover the medical expenses of his father, and if need be, his father may have to be taken back to India by New Zealand Emergency Air Medical Ambulance.

Mr Balakrishnan is on a visitor visa and is travelling without any travel or medical insurance which puts the responsibility of the hospital expenses to be born by the family alone.

Son Bijosh has started a Givealittle Page to help raise funds for his father’s medical expenses.

“As you all know, health care treatments are quite expensive in New Zealand especially if you don’t have any healthcare insurance. My father is not eligible for any sort of health benefits due to his visa status. Seeking your kind support in getting my dad back to India where he can be closer to family and continue to receive medical treatment,” Bijosh appealed to the public on the Givealittle Page.

“The hospital bill per day is around NZD$ 1,500 and still waiting to hear from the doctor about the discharge. As per the current situation he still has to be in the hospital for another two weeks or else he has to be moved to India by New Zealand Emergency Air Medical Ambulance. This is a massive cost which we couldn’t afford the bills and expenses at this point as my family, and I is still on a work visa,” the page read.

“All your prayers and generous contributions are requested for the speedy recovery of my father and his safe travel back to India,” Bijosh added.

Bijosh’s father Mr K Balakrishnan is admitted in the Middlemore Hospital, in Edmund Hillary Building, Ward no. 31, and Room no.  122. The Auckland Malayali Samajam has also come forward asking community’s support to help raise funds for Bijosh.

“Please help us financially and do remember us in your prayers,” Bijosh appealed through the Givealittle page.

"All money raised will contribute to daily hospital fee and airfare (including medical assistance in the flight) from Auckland to India and any surplus funds will go towards ongoing expenses as they may occur," the Givealittle page read.
