An Auckland woman has an unpleasant end to her movie going experience as she witnessed a security guard yelling racist rant on a group of fellow movie-goers.
The woman was shaken when she heard a female security guard at Manukau Event Centre yell at the moviegoers ‘shut up’ and ‘go back to your own country’ when they were exiting the cinema hall on Thursday, January 26, Stuff.co.nz reported.
Bijal, a 30-year-old customer care manager, has lived in New Zealand for 18 years and had taken her parents to see the most awaited and controversial Bollywood movie of the year, Padmaavat’ and reported this incident happened.
"Actually we had gone to watch a movie, Padmaavat, first day, second show, we were all excited," Bijal said in an interview to Radio Tarana.
Ms Bijal added that while she was coming out of the theatre, this loud rant caught her attention that the female security guard launched on the crowd.
"When she said 'go back to your country' that really got my attention," Bijal said in the radio interview with Radio Tarana.
"And I was actually shaken as well because I was standing on her side, so she was quite loud, and she was screaming out to the group, and the group walked down, and they actually did not respond." Ms Bijal added.
Ms Bijal said that the security guard was supposed to make people feel safe on the premises instead she made people uncomfortable and ‘miserably failed’ to perform her duties.
She added that the people kept walking silent and did not respond to her ‘rant’.
Bijal later told Stuff.co.nz that the risk and security manager at the complex, Etienne Shamly, said to her that the security guard concerned had been relieved of her duties after an investigation of the incident by the management.
