Police has arrested a 21-year-old and an 18-year-old woman in relation to the kidnapping of an 11-day-old baby on Wednesday, August 9.

Both women will appear in the Auckland District Court on Thursday, August 10 and are facing kidnapping and burglary charges.

At approximately 7 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9 police received a report that an 11-day-old baby has been kidnapped from a residential address in Epsom, Auckland.

The police launched an investigation, and a large team made numerous enquiries throughout the day before finally catching the offenders.

At about 1:30 p.m. Detective Inspector Scott Beard from Auckland City Police confirmed that the baby was located and she was safe and well.

“The baby’s parents are obviously very distraught and had been through a terrible ordeal, and they are currently with their baby.

“This has been an extremely stressful time for the parents of the young baby, and we are pleased the investigation was resolved swiftly to help relieve the parents’ distress.

“At this stage of the investigation police is not looking for anyone else in relation to the kidnapping, however enquiries are ongoing.

“As the matter is now before the court Police are unable to release further details and therefore will not be holding media interviews,” Detective Inspector Scott Beard said.

The baby’s parents have requested privacy as they come to terms with the ordeal they have endured.
