2 cups plain yoghurt

1½ cups cold water

1½ tsp. cumin seeds (jeera), coarsely powdered)

1 tsp. salt

A few ice cubes, to serve

Fresh mint leaves, to garnish

Method

Dry-roast cumin seeds in a pan on medium heat until they turn golden brown in colour and release an aroma. Cool to room temperature and grind to a coarse powder (using a mortar and pestle or grinder).

Process plain yoghurt, cold water, roasted cumin, and salt in a blender.

Serve with ice cubes and fresh mint leaves on top.

Ruby’s Tip

Cumin powder not only tastes good in lassi but it also tastes great in raita or when sprinkled over plain yoghurt that is often served with naan, rice and any curry.
