Former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark has reportedly been shortlisted to lead a global aid fund worth $5 billion, in Geneva.

According to the report published in The New York Times, Ms Clark is on the list with three other finalists to become the next director of the Global Fund that fights diseases such as Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

She has been heading the UN’s Development Programme for last eight years but after she lost her bid to become the next UN secretary-general, she decided to end her second four-year term with the programme in April this year.

Others on the list include Subhanu Saxena of India—former chief executive of major Indian pharmaceutical company Cipla, and former Nigerian health minister Muhammad Ali Pate.

The US is reportedly the Global Fund’s top funder.
