Aucklanders celebrated the spirit of Diwali at the recently held Supercity Diwali Mela in Papatoetoe. Adding to the true feeling of a Diwali Mela, the event saw food stalls, joy rides, and shopping stalls that attracted hundreds on Saturday, October 22. Organised by Auckland Indian Retailers Association, the event saw foot-tapping performances by many talents including Punjabi singer Amrit Pal Singh Mann and Dilpreet Dhillon.
A special act
A mesmerizing dance act by Hargun Kaur, a special child, was a complete show-stealer at the Mela. The 13-year-old, who has mild Down’s syndrome, won the hearts of all by her enthralling performance on Bollywood song Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Hargun, who was dressed in pink-hued traditional Indian attire, delivered an energetic performance, which garnered a resounding applause from the audience. The video of her dance has already received thousands of views on social media.
The little girl was felicitated by Baljit Kaur, candidate for Local Board Elections from Botany and Chair, New Zealand Sikh Women Association, and Jagjeet Singh Sidhu, Director of Immigration Matters—an immigration consultancy in Papatoetoe.
