Auckland Council is calling for candidates to fill vacancies on the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel (two positions) and Disability Advisory Panel (up to three).
The purpose of the panels is to:
• provide knowledge on issues that are important to specific communities in Auckland in relation to the council’s regional strategies, policies, plans and bylaws. This includes contributing to the “big picture” conversations about Auckland’s development
• advise the council on how to engage effectively with these communities.
Panels work on a programme agreed with the council. Members receive a meeting fee of $250 (less withholding tax) and meet six weekly.
The council will provide the necessary assistance to support people with a disability in the application and selection process.
The council is looking for panel members who:
• have a broad perspective and are committed to Auckland as a whole as well as commitment and expert knowledge of their own communities
• provide a reliable source of knowledge and judgment on current issues, emerging trends, challenges and opportunities
• are critical thinkers, able to give and appreciate alternative perspectives and priorities
• have a sound understanding and experience of giving advice in a governance role (e.g. on a board, committee, trust)
• understand the mandate of local government and respect its decision-making processes and the respective roles of elected members, advisory panels and officers.
Applications open 6 July 2015 and close 5pm 20 July 2015.
Applicants must complete an application form and provide a Curriculum Vitae (CV), including references.
