Have your say: Religious diversity at workplaces in NZ

Written by IWK Bureau | Jul 17, 2013 12:31:38 AM

You do not have to bring anything except yourselves and your thoughts, ideas and suggestions. If any of you wish to bring along a photograph of how you express religion in the workplace (for example a photograph of a god which you have on your desk, or a picture of yourself, or a picture of a holy place) please do so.

Some questions the discussion will involve:

1. Do you express your religion in the workplace? How? Why/Why not? (Four mini scenarios will be presented: ring tone of the telephone based on a religious hymn/kirtan; statue of a particular God on the desktop; image of a sacred shrine on the screen saver on the computer; wearing a veil/headscarf)
2. How does the organisation respond to your expression of religion at work?
3. What benefits do you bring to your organisation in the practice/expression of your religion?
3. How do you respond to the expression of religion at work by adherents of religions other than your own?
4. What suggestions do you have for organisations with reference to religious diversity in the workplace?
5. Has there been any change in your expression of religion at work in New Zealand, compared to your source country? How satisfied are you with this change?
6. Use three words to describe how you think organisations are with reference to current management of religion at work.
7. Use three words to express how you would like to see organisations in the future manage religion at work.
