Scores of Indians from around Auckland filled the ASB Theatre today, August 16, to mark the celebration of India’s 62nd Independence Day anniversary.
Food stalls and cultural items were the order of the day as crowds braved the rainy weather conditions to be a part of the celebrations which were organized by the Bharatiya Samaj Charitable Trust.
Trust chairman Jeet Suchdev said in his message to the community: “I would like to continue to spread my message of love, peace and global harmony amongst us Indians and Kiwis alike. My words are representative of what Indian and Indians stand for.
“We aim to live in absolute peace and harmony with all communities throughout the world.
“This is the main objective of Bhartiya Samaj – it stands committed to spreading this message of love and peace.”
Cultural items on the day featured traditional and modern performances from a diverse host of participants.
One of the highlights was the performance of the Senior Citizens Group, which performed to the song Mere Desh Ki Dharti, drawing thunderous applause from the audience.
Other performances included songs from Gopal of Radio Tarana, Punjabi Virsa Group and V4U Entertainment, and solo artistes.
