Navratri fervour

Auckland Indian Association in association with Bank of India (NZ) Limited presents Navratri 2012 at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre, 145 Great North Road, Eden Terrace.

Navratri is a nine-day cultural extravaganza celebrated in almost every region of India, punctuated with devotional songs and dances, made popular as 'Dandiya Raas' and 'Garba Raas'. Spread over a period of nine days, this festival of celebration is dedicated to the Goddess Durga. The festival is a ritual of fasting, japas and vegetarianism, with the air in and around the hoisted mandals filled with chanting of texts - all epitomizing the power of the goddess, each of the nine days of the festival witness the worship of nine different forms of Goddess Durga.

The celebrations will include professional artists, musicians and singers from India. Mataji sthapana pooja will start on Tuesday, 16th October at 3pm at Mahatma Gandhi Centre. For more information contact poojari on 09-3794463. Every year, the celebrations have over 20,000 attendees over the duration of Navratri. During the festival our catering committee prepares scrumptious vegetarian snack and food at reasonable costs for all who come to enjoy Garba.

The Auckland Indian Association is an established organisation with a long history of community and cultural services. Mahatma Gandhi Centre and Radha Krishna Mandir have been the backbone of Indian communities providing a multi functional venue for social, cultural and religious functions for many years.
