Excitement is building in several high schools in Auckland as they gear up for the biggest dance competition of the year.
The Bollywood High School Dance Competition – now in its 13th year – is here again and organisers are looking at delivering an even greater action-packed dhamaka than previous years.
The August 27 show, to be held at the Logan Campbell Centre in Greenlane, is shaping to be bigger and better in every way, says Binesh Sumer, the man behind the extravaganza.
The winner this year gets to take home a bigger cash prize ($3000), and a surprise item is being cooked up, and even parents will be asked to dance for a prize.
Vegas Horror Show
And there’s also a promise of a bit of blood and gore in the evening’s premier feature.
And that excitement will be provided by Andre Vegas & Company’s Vegas Horror Show.
Andre Vegas has enthralled audiences of all ages from around the world and nationally with his incredible ability to entertain in the many aspects of magic and grand illusions.
From disappearing and dissecting his assistant to making a car appear, Andre does it all from close-up magic, family entertainment through to his very popular horror themed shows.
Teamed up with his partner and principal assistant Joanna Maree, Andre presents The Vegas Horror Show which consists of a variety of Illusions, audience participation, comedy, and a little blood.
“Expect the unexpected,” Binesh said of the horror show, which will be delivered in “snippets” throughout the dance competition.
Show proper is set to feature 23 high schools from around Auckland, along with last year’s winner Otahuhu College.
The theme of the night is Bollywood Dance Fiesta 2011.
Binesh told the Indian Weekender that scores of students from the schools had already started their preparations.
“The standard of the show has gone up every year and this year is no different.”
Schools have been given $300 from the organisers to help them in their preparations.
The first prize is $3000 plus trophy; second prize is $1500, and third $750, along with cash prizes for individual dancers and costumes with other major prizes.
“This year is going to be the biggest and the most competitive event yet as students have started on their projects from last year,” Binesh said.
The evening will be MC’d by “Pardesi” Ajay Vashist, and Neha of Radio Tarana.
