Auckland: Local chiropractor Kamal Merai is one of three finalists in the AUT University Young Business Person of the Year. This was revealed at a cocktail function to announce the finalists of the Westpac Auckland South Business Awards.

More than 150 people including a number of prominent business leaders and local body dignitaries attended the function held at Villa Maria Estate in Mangere last week.

Dr Merai works at the multi award winning Chiropractic & Sport clinic in Takanini known as CNS. CNS has a long history of being the best of the best, winning awards in 2003, 2006 and the most recent being in 2009 winning the Franklin/Papakura Customer Choice award.

He was unable to be at the announcement of the finalists due to his teaching commitments at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic where he teaches in the outpatient clinic working with the next generation of chiropractors.

Being no stranger to winning awards, having been awarded the New Zealand College of Chiropractic Philosophy Award in his final year of study, Dr Merai was suitably humbled by being nominated and selected as a finalist “my days are busy working in the clinic and in the community, so it’s a welcome surprise and an honour to be acknowledged in this way!”.

Having worked at CNS Takanini since his graduation five years ago Kamal has quickly become known to patients for his specialized knowledge of the spine, joints and neural system and how chiropractic care can be pivotal in the recovery but also in their improved sense of wellbeing.

Specialising in headaches, migraines, neck conditions and extremity injuries, Kamal his built his business by word mouth with a simple philosophy of getting results for his patients and providing solutions to problems “chiropractic care should be no different than brushing your teeth everyday – it should be part of people’s lifestyle to receive specialized help when they need it and strategies to stay healthy for longer”.

The finals will be held at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on August 12.
