Desh Punjab to host sports event

Auckland: Desh Punjab Sports and Cultural Club in association with Papatoetoe Kabaddi Club Inc and ASB Bank, will host their annual sports event on May 1, 2011 at the new PSCCT facility in Papatoetoe. The event will commence at 9 am and is scheduled to finish by 6 pm.

Desh Punjab Sports and Cultural club plans to make Kabaddi, one of the local games in New Zealand. Kabaddi is the state game of Punjab, one of India's northern states. Kabaddi is a popular game in many states of India.

The association is hosting the tournament at a venue open to public and invites all ethnic communities to attend. The association hopes to seek interest from other community groups in New Zealand and create a team for Kabaddi with players with various ethnicities.

The event will have three games played in the same venue and in one day, there will be league as well as final matches. This tournament will have teams from all over New Zealand competing to be named as the supreme team in Kabaddi , Soccer and Volleyball.
