Friends of an Indian man who died in a road accident in Wellington are raising funds to support the funeral and return the remains to his family.

26-year-old Vishal Anand died in a serious car crash in Wairarapa on Wednesday.

Originally from Simrahi, Bihar, Anand received his education in Gujarat before moving to Christchurch, New Zealand in 2019 to study Information Technology.

Anand moved to Wellington a month back to work with an IT company there.

The crash took place in Ponatahi, near Carterton. Police were notified of the two-vehicle crash on Ponatahi Rd about 8:35am on Wednesday.

A Givealittle page has been set up by Anand’s friend Satpal to arrange for his funeral and to farewell his remains back to his parents in India.

Satpal remembers Anand as, “a really friendly and easy-going person.  He had lots of friends as evident by the support coming through. Vishal was a smart and intelligent person with a great sense of humour.  Overall, just a great and humble personality.”
