Indian community members in Invercargill were shocked by the sudden death of a Tamil woman yesterday, November 22. Her family and friends have set up a Give-a-little page for the deceased, and donations will be used towards funeral and repatriation expenses.
The deceased, affectionately known as Sree, passed away suddenly in the early hours of yesterday. Her husband Vignesh and her daughter Avanthika, 10 years old, are distraught and inconsolable after the unexpected death.
The High Commissioner of India to NZ has been contacted and all assistance is being provided to the family for repatriation.
Originally from Tamil Nadu, India, Sree works in Invercargill, New Zealand as a Management Assistant to the Directorate Leadership at Te Whatu Ora. The family moved here in 2017. Her husband is still in a state of shock, unsure of any future plans.
Friends of the family are urging the community to contribute financially to cover the funeral expenses and for the body to be flown to India so that the religious last rites can be performed and to support Sree's husband Vignesh and Avanthika get through this difficult time.
