The government is bringing a new requirement on new international students coming to New Zealand to show $5000 in their account at the time of applying for post-study work visa.

This is different from the financial requirements placed before applying for student visa.

The students transitioning to post-study work visa from May 11, 2022, will now have to demonstrate $5000 in their accounts to be eligible for post study work visa.

From 31 July 2022, when the border fully opens for foreigners, including international students, the government is increasing the living cost fund requirements for international students.

From $15,000 to $20,000 per annum for prospective tertiary student visa applicants and to $17,000 for prospective international students

The government intends to review funds requirement for both new international student visas and post study work visas every three years.
