18,699 new community cases, Seven further deaths; NZ's Covid-19 death toll reaches 105

Seven people have died with Covid-19, the Ministry of Health says,as the country's death toll since the beginning of the pandemic passes 100.

The latest deaths bring New Zealand's Covid-19 death toll to 105

Today there are new 18,699 confirmed with Covid  and 853 people are in hospital with the virus. Seven are in ICU or high dependency unit care.

Three of the deaths were in the Auckland region, and one each in Bay of Plenty, MidCentral, Wellington and Canterbury. One person was in their fifties, two were in their 70s, two were in their 80s, and two were in their 90s. Four were male and three were female.

There were 20,989 new cases and seven new deaths reported yesterday, while Auckland health authorities remain cautiously optimistic that the Omicron outbreak may have peaked in the country's biggest city.
