Veteran Kiwi-Indian journalist and longtime editor of fortnightly Indian Newslink, Venkat Raman, has been appointed as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his service to the Indian community.
The Honour was conveyed by the Governor General Cindy Kiro on behalf of Queen Elizabeth.
Mr Raman's career spans five decades and during his long career, he has interviewed several Presidents, Prime Ministers, Heads of State, world leaders, movie stars, sports celebrities and others.
He has headed the fortnightly Indian Newslink as editor for more than two decades and has been involved in several initiatives for the Indian community in New Zealand.
The New Zealand Order of Merit is awarded to those “who in any field of endeavour, have rendered meritorious service to the Crown and the nation or who have become distinguished by their eminence, talents, contributions, or other merits.”
