Wellington: The Northern Wellington Community Day (NW Community Day) will be celebrated on Saturday 11 December 2010. NW Community Day is a new addition to the 10-year-old annual Northern Wellington Festival.
NW Community Day is jointly organised by Wellington Mutamizh Sangam and Wellington City Council’s Newlands Community Centre with the support from Office of Ethnic Affairs.
The NW Community Day celebrates the diversity of the northern Wellington region with aim of connecting the various cultures and communities in this region.
Several community organisations such as the Nga Hau e Wha o Paparangi community Marae, local resident associations, cultural organisations and agencies such as NZ Police, ACC, Well Health PHO and City Library will be participating in this event.
The NW Community Day will include activities and entertainment that focus on families’ health and wellbeing.
The planned events include Yoga, Taichi, cultural performances, food and activities for children.
To promote the health and well being, there will be a couple of presentations on the topic of Healthy Community and another on Saver Community
Mayor Celia Wade – Brown will open the NW Community Day at 9am and a crowd of around 500 people are expected to attend this free event.
The organisers invite all to come along to support and enjoy the festival.
