Robinpreet’s body is to be repatriated to India on Thursday

A body of a 24-year-old Indian migrant worker named Robinpreet Singh, who unexpectedly passed away recently, will be repatriated to his hometown Amritsar on Thursday.

Robinpreet was found unresponsive at his Papatoetoe home by his landlord on the morning of September 26.

Bhav Dhillon, Hon Consul of India, has confirmed that all documentation has been completed for the body repatriation.

“The body will leave New Zealand on Thursday and is expected to reach India on Friday via Qatar Airways, Auckland - Doha - Amritsar flight,” said Dhillon

His friends are organising a prayer meeting for him before his body is repatriated. Giving details about the same, his close friend Simran Gill said, “I have still not been able to accept that Robinpreet is not with us anymore. His friends including me are planning a prayer meeting before his body is sent to India. But at present, there is a restriction on the gathering of 10 due to the alert level 3 in Auckland and we are trying our best to get an exemption for the same, so that we all can give a final farewell to our friend.”

It may be noted that even though the post mortem of the body has taken place but the cause of death could not be determined yet. The detailed report is still awaited.

Robinpreet's family will be doing his last rites in India. Indian Weekender spoke to his father, Kulwant Singh, who was inconsolable. Talking about his late son, Kulwant, who works with the Police department in India, said, "He was my everything. I can't believe what has happened and why it has happened. He has no stress and was very happy. He was the best son one could have. We are waiting for his body to reach us, and then we will be doing his last rites and bidding him a final farewell."

Robinpreet, who hails from Tarn Taran in Amritsar, Punjab, came to New Zealand in 2017 and completed his business studies at Marsden Technical Institute.

Currently, he was on a work visa.

His sudden death has left the whole Kiwi Indian community of Auckland in shock.
