Diwali in Auckland - a photo essay

As Diwali festivities got underway in Auckland recently, one could be forgiven for thinking they were at a mela in India.

A kaleidoscope of colours, cultural performances, food stalls, and enthusiastic crowds thronging Queen St brought out the best in the grand celebration of the annual Indian Festival of Lights, which was opened by the Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir Anand Satyanand.

Auckland actress and photographer Bali Virk captured the special moments on camera over the two days of festivities at Aotea Square, in Central Auckland.
