There are 20 new community cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand today.

Only five of the 20 new cases reported today were infectious while in the community, and all new cases were in Auckland.

No cases linked to the current outbreak have so far been detected outside Auckland or Wellington, with the last case in the capital reported on Friday.

Most of New Zealand moved from level 4 to level 3 last Tuesday, 31 August, with Northland following on Thursday night after additional testing, and Auckland remaining at level 4.

Cabinet met this afternoon to discuss the change in levels although Auckland was set to remain at level 4 until at least 14 September.

There are around 3000 essential workers crossing the Auckland border daily.

All persons crossing the border should have a negative test which should not be older than 1 week. This will mean that all those crossing the borders will need to be tested every week.

The Prime Minister urged anyone with symptoms anywhere in the country to get a test.

In the 4pm press conference it was announced that rest of New Zealand other than Auckland will move to level 2 from 11:59pm from Tuesday.

Two additional rules for level 2 were announced: In an indoor venue for hospitality and events numbers will be restricted to 50 and outdoor to 100.

The other change is to other indoor facilities like gyms, libraries and museums. These venues are now classified the same as retail and supermarkets - so there's a 2 metre rule in place.

Masks will continue to be mandatory.
