An Indian woman nurse died in a fatal road incident on State Highway 12, near Brynderwyn, on 22 June.
Police has revealed the identity of the Indian nurse as 29-year-old Palwinder Kaur from Ruawai.
Responding to an enquiry by the Indian Weekender, an official spokesperson of NZ police said, “Police can now name the woman who died after a vehicle crash on State Highway 12, near Brynderwyn, on 22 June.”
“She was Palwinder Kaur, 29, from Ruawai.”
“Police's sympathies are with her family at this time.”
Earlier the police have reported about the tragic accident that happened just before midnight on June 22 in Northland, “A person has died following a crash near Maungaturoto overnight.”
“Shortly after 11.20pm on June 22, Police were notified of a crash involving two vehicles on SH12 near the intersection with SH1 at Brynderwyn.
“One person was airlifted to hospital and has sadly died.
“Another person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
“The Serious Crash Unit has been notified and an investigation into the crash is underway,” the earlier police press release said.
Palwinder Kaur was on work visa
Originally from Amritsar district of the India’s state of Punjab, Palwinder had arrived in New Zealand in 2019 on a student visa and was currently on work visa.
The Indian Weekender has learned from close friend Prince Man who is the next of kin in New Zealand and coordinating with authorities and the deceased’s family back in India.
“She was my friend’s wife, and the family has requested to send her back as soon as possible,” Mr Mann said.
Mr Mann told the Indian Weekender that Palwinder got married with Harmeet Singh last year in Rotorua.
She was working as a nurse at an Old age retirement home in Waipu. ‘’ She was not suppose to be at work that day and was covering a shift for another friend” Mr Mann said.
The office of the Indian Consulate in Auckland and the Indian High Commission are assisting in body repatriation arrangements
