Vande Bharat Mission led Air India flight has taken off from Auckland Airport taking stranded Indian nationals back home this afternoon.

The flight carrying 221 passengers back home took off from the Auckland airport earlier this afternoon around 12:30 p.m.

The High Commission of India in Wellington had announced the date of this repatriation flight earlier this month before eventually advising interested passengers to register again on a separate link and then purchasing a ticket directly from the Air India website.

Apparently, within hours of the opening the website for the public to purchase tickets, it was sold out.

The tickets were priced at NZ $2478.85 for the economy class. The direct flight AI 1321 will land at New Delhi airport at 9:30 p.m. (India time).
