A treat awaits classical music lovers next month. An Evening of Hindustani Classical Music with Rajendra Kandalgaonkar will be held at 6.30pm on Saturday July 10, at Fickling Convention Centre, 546 Mt. Albert Rd.
Rajendra Kandalgaonkar is one of the most loved and respected exponents of Kirana Gharana in Hindustani Classical Music. Endowed with a rich and resonant voice, his performances are lavished with emotion, creative improvisations and a complete mastery of rhythm.
Next month, Kandalgaonkar is travelling from Pune, India, to New Zealand for an exclusive performance.
The audience will be treated to the soaring melodies and intricate improvisations of evening Raagas, within the appropriately intimate space of Fickling Convention Centre.
Kandalgaonkar began his extensive training under Pandit Vishnu A Ghag of Gwalior Gharana, and later under the maestro himself, Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimen Joshi of Kirana Gharana. He is now a reputed teacher and the headmaster of one of India’s finest music institutions, Sawai Ghandharva Sangeet Mahavidyalay.
Kandalgaonkar gained international recognition after his North American tour in 2003, “receiving tremendous applause from the audiences and creating a permanent niche in their hearts.” Earlier this year, Kandalgaonkar performed in arguably the world’s largest Hindustani Classical Music event, Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav, in Pune.
As per tradition, Kandalgaonkar’s student Balamohan Shingade will open the concert, followed by a tabla jugalbandi by Deepak Madhur and Basant Madhur. Also accompanying Kandalgaonkar will be Basant Madhur on tabla and Prof. Shukdev Madhur on harmonium. The event is supported by Auckland’s own Sargam School of Indian Music.
This is a very special opportunity to experience the voice of the illustrious Kandalgaonkar, one of India’s finest musical phenomena. Be in quick to reserve your tickets - this will be an unmissable evening of exquisite music-making.
