Jetstar NZ-Fiji flights on the cards?

Jetstar plans to expand its operations from New Zealand, and there is speculation this could include New Zealand-Fiji services.

The Qantas low-cost subsidiary says it will actively review value-based ‘long-haul’ services from New Zealand - a first for the market.

The specialist news service AviationRecord.com reported Jetstar chief executive, Bruce Buchanan, did not reveal likely destinations.

But the most likely, options would be flights to Asian destinations or Fiji, and potentially Hawaii, it said.

Jetstar is already flying Sydney-Nadi-Sydney four times a week with A320 jets in competition with national carrier Air Pacific and Virgin’s V Australia/Pacific Blue flights.

Services from New Zealand to Nadi would compete with Air Pacific and Air New Zealand.

Jetstar currently flies six A320s in New Zealand, evenly split between its domestic low-fare operations and multiple daily trans-Tasman services from Christchurch and Auckland.

Later this year, Jetstar will base a seventh A320 in NZ to operate on domestic or international routes from its existing New Zealand ports.
