The Nasinu Town Council has unveiled its new Town Planning Scheme, which includes policy direction for development within the municipality.

Special administrator Nasinu, Mosese Kama, said the scheme, which has never been introduced in the municipality, was a requirement under the Local Government Act.

“Nasinu, being the biggest town in Fiji, given its size, population and increasing development of buildings, businesses, etc has never undergone such a scheme,” Mr Kama said.

“But once implemented, such a planning scheme speed up the processes of development off the ground and also properly co-ordinate overall planning and development in the future.”

In the mean time, should any development take place, all applications will be processed through the Director Town and Country Planning office.

Once in place, the Town Planning Scheme will ensure fast approvals at the Nasinu Town Council with more effective and efficient services delivered to the ratepayers.

This was organised at the Nasinu Town Council chamber yesterday, with stakeholders meeting to work together in the best interest of the town.
