Firangi XI and Tamil Pasanga leading teams in All Nations Cricket tournament

Teams Firangi XI from pool A and Tamil Pasanga from pool B is leading in the Ara All Nations Cricket Festival in Christchurch.

The annual T20 tournament is organised by Christchurch Metro Cricket Association and sponsored by Ara Institute of Canterbury, and supported by Christchurch Multicultural Council and Christchurch City Council; the matches are held every Sunday leading to the final on December 8 at Hagley Park.

In pool A, team Firangi XI beat PlaceMe by 130 runs and Afghan Fine Legs by 29 runs and remained unbeaten so far in the tournament with 20 points. In pool B, Tamil Pasanga defeated The Strikers by 85 runs and The Falcons by 21 runs cruising to the top unbeaten yet with 20 points.

Mohit Marya from Action Indoor team and Daz Collis from Tamil Pasanga scored century each to become the top scorers of the week.

Following Firangi XI in Pool A are Cornered Tigers with 15 points, Afghan Fine Legs, Action Indoor Sports with ten points each, Nepal Warriors with five and PlaceMe still at nil.

Strikers who were at par with Tamil Pasanga last week have dropped down to position four in pool B after losing to Kings of Punjab and Tamil Pasanga this week. Kings of Punjab are in the second position with 15 points followed by Afghan XI and Strikers at ten points, Falcons at five and Doon Tiger Club sitting at nil.

The last round of the tournament will be played on December 8 followed by the final and award ceremony in the afternoon.

“We have had a great engagement in the last two weeks as spectators and supporters thronged the grounds to watch the thrilling matches,” Surinder Tandon, President of Christchurch Multicultural Council told The Indian Weekender.

“We are trying to foster multiculturalism and diversity through cricket and also promoting the sports amongst the youngsters here and it's going quite good,” Mr Tandon added.

The last round of the tournament will be played on Sunday, December 8 followed by the finals and match for third and fourth places.
