The Indi King dancing competition is set to rock the stage again in Auckland soon.
The much awaited Bollywood male dancing competition will be held on March 10 at the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre.
This year’s competition will mark the fifth anniversary of the contest which has been organised and run by Mumta and Yogesh Gounder of RTG Corp.
The event started in a small town hall, and has grown over the years with a hype that boasted around professional and quality with regard to event organisation and stage performance.
The Gounders say that critics have lauded both verbally and in writing, hailing the event as of “international standards”.
"Mumta and I put great effort into preparing all our contestants in ample time leading up to the event,” Yogesh said.
“We set clear expectations about what we would like our audience to enjoy as far as a clean stage item goes, but also we encourage a theme based routine that tells a story or shares emotion.
“Each contestant gets the opportunity to be part of a proffesional photo and music video shoot which creates further interest for more of the local communities to attend to vote for their favourite on the night,” Yogesh told the Indian Weekender.
With Indi King originating after the birth of their first son Raul (4), Yogesh and Mumta enjoyed another bundle of joy, their second Bollywood baby Rian (1).
With Rian being the new addition to their lives, Yogesh dreamt up another concept which in 2012 will become a reality, a new segment in addition to Indi King – the duo dance comp Dance2 will launch this year.
The competitions
INDI KING: Bollywood Male Dance Comp - Bollywood Themed featuring a lead male entrant performing either solo or with background dancers of any gender.
Dance2 (pronounced dance squared): Concept of 'The Power of Two'. Duos can perform to any genre of music in any dance form. Duos can be of the same or different gender, i.e male and female, male and male or female and female.
"It's a very exciting year for us," Mumta said. “We celebrate a successful five years of entertaining NZ with a quality event, and now we are launching yet another not-yet-done -in-NZ attraction.
“We are sincerely thankful for our presenter of Indi King Pranesh Raniga of RK Cars, our 1st prize sponsor Kris Goundar of Poojaz Designer Fashions; or 1st runner-up sponsor Vishwa Goundar of NZ Catering Masters; and our 2nd runner-up sponsor Ashok Naidu of Excel Panel and Paint.
“With Dance2 being sponsored by Rex Nand of Tyre World and Auto Ltd we have supporting sponsors: ANZ Newmarket, Dj Gabbroo - Manish, V4U - Viraf Todywalla and Kateli Consulting LTD.
“Having Radio Tarana back us for the last 5 years means through the sound wave median more listeners find out about a local set up with quality. Without all our sponsors’ support we could not achieve the calibre of event quality we anticipated,” Mumta said.
“I'm also thankful for my right hand team: Dinesh Sami (host) VJ Singh (Cameran and motion designer) Jeev Goundar (Graphic Designer and Tech Support) Mel Narayan (Backstage Manager)."
Mumta and Yogesh said their inspiration not only came from their two Bollywood boys, but also Mumta's dad Diven Sami.
"Each year daddy will tell us, there is a different way we can do things and achieve improved results – what else can we do, what else can we do?" That gets us thinking and acting more creatively and the three of us generally swap ideas to come up with a unique event year on year for the audience that pays to enjoy it."
With 2012 preps going well and a countdown to the big day well under way, Yogesh and Mumta asks all readers to come along and enjoy this fun family night out. The event only being $15 per person pre sale will be a great chance to enjoy our local talent, the youth of today our future of tomorrow.
