Concert fails to impress

A multitude of dissatisfied concert goers were seen leaving early from the Daler Mehndi concert at Logan Campbell Centre on Sunday, July 19.

What promised to be an explosive night with one of Bhangra’s most popular recording artists fizzled into an evening of karaoke as Daler sang to pre-recorded music in front of approximately 1500 patrons, many of whom had spent $75 to $100 each for premium seats.

Promoter Bobby Khan, of Nippon Autos, said that he was disappointed with the turnout for the event and that Bollywood shows were not easy to acquire and bring into New Zealand. He added that future planned events were in doubt as there was little support from the public.

Reggie Singh, marketing manager for Indian Weekender, which was print and online sponsor, was equally displeased with the event but did not place blame on the public but rather on the organisation of the event.

It was painfully obvious to patrons that the band members were pretending to play their instruments and were seen leaving their stations and wandering about the stage as the music continued uninterrupted.

“The public will pay to see quality events but this was no where what our expectations were and I do not blame people for leaving early or being displeased," said Reggie.

Indian Weekender held a stall in the foyer of the Logan Campbell Centre and interacted with the public, before, during and after the event. The response to and comments about Indian Weekender were overwhelming and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to chat with us on the night.
