Remembering Rafi

One of Auckland’s brightest young stars gets to thrill his audience once again in a musical extravaganza in Avondale in July.

15-year-old Avish Sharma, who was voted the Most Popular Singer at last year’s Kaun Banega Super Star event, this time takes the stage for the Remembering Rafi – a Tribute to the Legend programme to be held on July 18.

Although Kaun Banega Super Star was eventually won by Abhas Mazhar, young Avish has been described as a “powerhouse of talent and will go a long way”.

One of the more established Auckland singers to accompany Avish on the night is Chaitra Ravishankar. And other up and coming performers are Bhawna Kadam, Hemant and Shweta Shirsat and Sahil.

Programme organizer Umesh Sharma, himself a singer, said the performers had been giving their 100 per cent during rehearsals and it was shaping up to be a grand musical night.

Sharma, a long-time fan of the legendary Mohammed Rafi, said he would have liked to use a bigger venue for the musical night, but had no choice as others had been booked out.

Main sponsor for the event is Aashirwad Foods, assisted by Sona Sansar, Mitre 10, Mithai, Top in Town, Ezy Financial Solutions, New Lynn Compliance Centre, Pan World Travel.

Remembering Rafi – a Tribute to the Legend, July 18, Avondale College Auditorium, 7pm. Tickets, $15, available from Mithai, Top in Town, and also from Umesh 021 111-1055.
