Fiji’s interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama leaves for India today (March 25) on an Indian-government sponsored trip to inspect a New Delhi hospital and to finalise a property for the planned Fiji chancery, according to a government statement.

The Fiji Times online reported that he would be accompanied on the seven-day visit by his Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Commission Parmesh Chand, his wife and a personal security guard.

Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau will be acting Prime Minister.

Bainimara, former head of the Fiji Military, became self-appointed leader of the country after overthrowing the government of Laisenia Qarase in 2006.
