Honey, should we get travel insurance for our next overseas trip?

A question that we all have in our minds when we travel overseas.

I always wonder why people don’t assess the risk that they carry during their trips overseas.

The common comment that I get from clients for not having travel insurance is “I am going to my home country, why do I need travel insurance?”

I would like to ask you a simple question, should some medical emergency arise while you are overseas, are you going to get free treatment or surgery? The simple answer is “No”.

Most of us are not well informed about travel insurance, what it covers and why we should have it.

Some of the main coverages you can have under travel insurance are:

  • Any emergency medical expenses incurred overseas
  • Emergency dental expenses overseas
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation
  • Any unexpected cancellation costs or travel delays
  • Loss of luggage or personal effects
  • Personal liability
  • Accidental death cover

Another common objection I get is, “It’s too expensive”.

What if I tell you travel insurance is FREE when you take out a new health insurance policy with nib. Yes, you heard me right, you don’t have to pay anything extra. As long as you take out a new nib Ultimate Health or Ultimate Health Max policy through your financial adviser it will include a complimentary annual, multi-trip travel insurance policy.

Hope this helps, should you wish to know more details about free travel insurance from nib, including the terms and conditions, ask your adviser.

What you should really say is “honey, we should have travel insurance for our next overseas trip.”  Speak to your financial adviser today.
