The Kiwi Indian Hall of Fame is a culmination of the years of hard work and brave decisions of a lot of people. Those who risked so much for their passions and beliefs, those who showed faith in what this institution could achieve and also those who criticised the paper, each time giving it a thrust. We at the Indian Weekender are very grateful to all their ideas.
This year’s Hall of Fame is before us all, we have tried to be the best we can, we have let our well wishers take a bow and we seek blessings from the almighty to let us be strong in difficult times and be compassionate in times of prosperity.
As we turn 5, this issue celebrates our existence, our existence not just an isolated voice but as a member of the society we work for the betterment for.
The anniversary issue is designed on the theme, ‘Power of 5’, celebrating the five years of the newspaper’s impact on the five pillars of society we have worked closely with.
1) Community associations: the backbone of integrating the diaspora with the local culture and helping them rejoice in their roots at the same time.
2) Local businesses: we are all praise for this segment who has showered us with so much belief, issue after issue, without them we would not be here.
3) Arts and cultural associations: these associations are symbols of a heightened existence, celebrating heritage, culture and human spirit in societies.
4) Members of the youth: as an organization we take pride in delivering a vision for a better future, it is these voices from the members of the youth changing the landscape, that give us hope.
5) Voice to the community: this section allows us to take pride, in our endeavours over the past year as we spoke for the community.
We engaged with these organisations, and asked them, to share with us about their association with the newspaper.
To further establish our position, as the pulse of the Kiwi Indian, the under current which will be highlighted via pictorial or cartoons is the 5 elements metaphor, of Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Spirit. Integrating us with the community. Identifying our strength as to what we have managed to achieve in the past year. With the help of stories we ran in our paper over the past year (Volume 5), giving evidence to the above metaphors.
The overarching idea is to highlight the power of the paper, which is certainly not limited to the Indian community, or even to the Kiwi Indian community but stretches to society at large, underlining the fact that we are circulated nationwide now (in 5 major cities) now.
Our major supporters are institutions like SIT, the national political parties take note of us, and in a diverse ethnic/multicultural setup like New Zealand every voice matters.
Raising a toast to another year of strength and well-being, Indian Weekender wishes you happy reading.
