The Aucklanders are in for a treat this weekend as the wizard of words, the legendary poet and Oscars winner lyricist Gulzar will perform live in New Zealand for the first time ever.

The excitement is on its peak after two back-to-back hit shows in Sydney and Melbourne. The audience was enthralled and often left giggling and cheering on the engaging and entertaining conversations with Gulzar saab.

What to expect

In an evening of guftagu (conversation) curated by Salim Arif, Bollywood’s beloved lyricist will share some untouched stories of his life and will answer his curious questions.

A few members of the audience will also get an opportunity to ask Gulzar saab their questions. This segment has been appreciated the most by the audiences in Sydney and Melbourne and is one of the most look-forward-to segment.

He will then recite his unheard and unsung compositions/nazams. Gulzar saab had been working on these compositions especially for NZ-Australia tour and it will be the first time we will get to hear those compositions. So, get ready!

Musical treat:

As we know, Gulzar saab’s contribution to Bollywood is immense. He has given Bollywood several hit songs that are remembered even after many years.

Three well-known singers from Auckland will be performing on Gulzar saab’s popular and evergreen Bollywood numbers. Umesh Sharma, Avish Sharma and Shweta Divekar will bring the musical treat for you with the hits of Gulzar saab.

Umesh Sharma is renowned as the voice of Md Rafi, originating from Gujarat where he harnessed his passion for music by performing Tribute To Rafi shows every year, starting from 1996. After being is event-organisation for the better half of a decade, he made a comeback as the lead performer in Woh Jab Yaad Aaye concert in Auckland with a hit show in July 2017.

Avish Sharma is not only famous for being Umesh Sharma’s son but has made his own mark through his popular cover songs and is quite a sensation on YouTube. He is the winner of an online contest by T-Series, India’s top music label. Avish has performed in several shows in India and Australia.

Shweta Divekar is another renowned name in Auckland’s musical community. She has entertained audiences in several music shows in Auckland and will once again be performing the hit and evergreen songs of Gulzar saab.
