Force 2
Cast: John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha, Tahir Raj Bhasin
Director: Abhinay Deo
Force (2011) a remake of the Tamil film KakkaKakka was a grand success. Given the current trend of sequels in Bollywood, it was only a matter of time before Force 2 made it to the silver screen.
In Force 2 John Abraham, who is also the co-producer of the film, revives the character of ACP Yashvardhan from the first edition.
John not only reinvigorates the character but also continues with the underplayed presentation of a hapless cop.
However, this time the portrayal appears pretentious possibly because of the expectations created by the success of Force 2.
John uses his rippling muscular physique to lift a Mercedes!
RAW Power one would call it!
However muscle power alone cannot raise the flawed script.
Sonakshi Sinha as KK (Kamaljit Kaur) a kick ass RAW agent tries very hard to do a “Lara Croft” but fails miserably, thanks to the weak characterisation.
A film like Force 2 is supposed to be an all adrenaline pumping action movie full of bombs, bust-ups, stunts and car chases.
However, the film is little too much of action without a compelling storyline to back up the mindless action.
In fact, it is the villain, played to perfection by Tahir Raj Bhasin(as Shiv Sharma), who holds the film together.
By focusing on the villain’s character the writer-duo Parvez Sheikh and Jasmeet Reen end up giving the best lines and scenes to Tahir Bhasin, who grabs the opportunity with both hands and does well.
Music is by Ram Sampath, the guy that did the signature tune of Amir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate the television serial.
So it is fair to say that music plays second fiddle in Force 2.
Rang Laal is somewhat of an ode to the heroes and martyrs who fought for our nation - a sort of “Mere Desh Ki Dharti” type of number.
O Janiya is a peppy number. Neha Kakkar breathes life into this song.
Koi Ishaara by Amaal Mallik is reminiscent of his previous popular numbers.
Catch me if you can by Armaan Mallik, could have been the signature piece of the film but disappoints.
The overall music is average; acting is average except the villain.
Cinematography by ImreJuhasz and Mohana Krishna is adequate although the presentation could have been a shade better.
In short Force 2, isn't the force that it might have been had it dared to drift away from the familiar and into the uncharted.
That is way beyond the grasp of this film.
Verdict: 2 stars.
Force2 is 2Forced…get it? Therefore it isn’t a Force that it could have been. Might be worth a watch for lovers of Bollywood style action genre and for die hard John Abraham fans.
