Suva: Highlighting the success of exporters at increasing Fiji's share of the global marketplace at this year’s TFL Prime Minister Exporter of the Year Awards, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said that the continued growth of Fiji's export economy is a critical component of Fiji's presence as the hub of trade in the region.

"The Fijian Government and the private sector work together in the quest for opportunities to broaden the export market including our niche products, which take advantage of our pristine environment," he said.

Reiterating Government incentives for the resource based sector and exporters such as tax breaks, zero rated tarrifs and accelerated depreciation, the Prime Minister added that these incentives will allow Fijian companies to better compete at the regional and global levels.

"Our focus is to grow the economy and create jobs," he said.

This year's TFL Prime Minister's Exporter of the Year Award saw 19 awards awarded to Fiji's top exporters.

The Winner of the TFL Prime Minister's Exporter of the year awards was the Biscuit Company of Fiji Limited.

Group Chief Executive Officer for the company, Ram Bajekal said that the award meant recognition of the effort that the biscuit company group has put into strengthening the company and the nation have borne fruit.

"We want to continue to grow our exports as we believe that is the only way that we can strengthen Fiji and once Fiji is strengthened it means that more people buy our products and there is progress for everyone," he said.

The biscuit company caters a vast variety of biscuits to a wide range of customers within Fiji and across the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia.
