Corrupt officers 'still exist' in Fiji Police Force

Lazy, dishonest and corrupt officers still exist in the Fiji Police Force, says the Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua.

And they need to be stopped because they bring disgrace to the force.

Those were the comments by Brig-Gen Naivalurua at the closing of a development and leadership course for police sergeants over the weekend.

"There are still lazy officers among us, dishonest officers, corrupt officers who are bringing disgrace to this organisation and this needs to be stopped.

"It's the human factor that needs to change. You need to have the courage to change, to see things that are wrong and straighten it. You need to have the attitude towards improving your work and change the image of this organisation," he told the 30 participants at the Fiji Police Academy.

Participants were reminded that they were the backbone of the Force.

"You senior NCOs (non-commissioned officers) are the ones who hold the force together when it moves ahead in trying to achieve its goals," he said.

"You should inspire to pitch in more than constables and more than corporals."

He said all officers needed to understand the environment of their work and what was happening at government level.

"As you progress in rank, you need to aspire to know more than those around you," he said.
