An enthralling cultural programme by students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and ethnic dance groups highlighted the rich heritage of India and Fiji.
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre at the High Commission of India in Suva organised a Diwali Cultural Night on November 6, 2021 at the Civic Centre in Suva.
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji, Inia Seruiratu graced the occasion as chief guest. In his speech, he highlighted the strong relationship between India and Fiji and congratulated the Government of India on its celebration of 75 years of Independence, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
In his remarks, the High Commissioner, HEPS Karthigeyan expressed his sincere gratitude to all frontline workers who risked their lives to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the significance of the festival of Diwali which is celebrated as one of the major festivals of India.
The event was attended by around 200 guests including Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice of Fiji, Ministers, Assistant Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Members of Diplomatic Corps and prominent members of the Indian diaspora.
