A $50 million contract has been given by the Chinese Government for the building of low cost housing in Tacirua.
Yesterday Housing Authority acting board chairman, Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo, signed the commercial contract with China Railway First Company Limited general manager, Huang Wangtao.
βThe contract of $50m is part of the $70m Chinese Government concessional loan to the Fiji Government for low cost housing projects,β Ratu Josateki said.
β$50m is allocated to the Authority, which will be further divided for land development at Tacirua ($35m) and construction of housing units at Tacirua and Nepani ($415m),β he revealed.
He added that the remaining $20m will be allocated to the Public Rental Board for the construction of around 500 rental housing units in Raiwai and Raiwaqa.
Ratu Josateki welcomed the partnership entered yesterday with the Chinese company to house over 1500 families.
