AAP to launch national membership drive

A day after it announced that it will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections from maximum number of seats in the national level, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday said it will launch a campaign across the country starting Jan 10, inviting individuals to join the party.

Addressing the media persons, AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said that a campaign called 'Main Bhi Aam Aadmi' will be carried out between Jan 10 and 26.

During the campaign, a membership drive will be carried out across the country inviting people to join AAP.

"No fee will be involved for the membership," Yadav said.

Yadav said that the people can fill the applications for the candidature for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls till Jan 15, which will then be screened at the state level.

"A three-member national campaign co-ordination committee will look into manifesto, fund raising and polls-related functions," he said.

The decision was taken during the AAP's National Executive meeting on Sunday, which was held to discuss the upcoming Lok Sabha polls strategy.

Following Saturday's meet, AAP leader Prashant Bhushan announced that the party will contest the Lok Sabha polls for maximum seats in the national level.

"After forming the Delhi government, the people have become hopeful that there can be an alternative politics in the country," Bhushan said following AAP's National Executive meeting here.

He said the AAP has decided that the party will contest the Lok Sabha elections from the "maximum number of states."

Bhushan said the party will contest from all states wherever good candidates will be available.

"Candidates will be verified in the states and district level," the AAP leader said.
