Mirpur: Sachin Tendulkar's hundreth century was marred by quick-fire innings by Mushfiqur Rahim helping Bangladesh defeat India by five wickets in a crucial Asia Cup encounter for the home side at Shere Bangla National Stadium, here on Friday.
Chasing 290 for victory, Bangladesh reached 293 runs by losing five wickets in 49.2 overs.
Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (46*) turned out to be the hero for the home side as he kept on hitting lusty blows at the end to change the fortunes of the game that was inclined towards India for most of the time.
He hit three boundaries and three sixes in the match.
N Hossain (54) and Rahim engaged in a match wining partnership of 64 runs in the fifth wicket partnership to give the hosts a memorable victory.
Tamim Iqbal (70), Jahurul Islam (53) and Shakib Al Hasan (49) made important contributions with the bat.
Iqbal and Islam had also added 113 runs in the second wicket partnership that helped the Bangladesh side to clinch a significant win in the four-side tournament.
The Indian bowlers failed to sustain the pressure over the Bangladesh players and that made situations tough for the World Champions.
I Pathan, A Dinda, PKumar, R Ashiwn all gave away runs in the match.
Kumar picked up three wickets in the match while Ashiwn and Jadeja shared one wickets each.
India will phase arch-rivals Paksitan in the next match of the tournament.
Earlier, riding on a historical hundredth century by Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar, India had reached a competitive score of 289 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Sachin scored 114 runs in the match before he was dismissed by Mashrafe Mortaza. He hit 12 boundaries and a six in the 147-balls innings.
V Kohli (66), S Raina (51), MS Dhoni (21*) contributed with their willow in their second match of the four-nation tournament.
However, R Sharma (4) and G Gambhir (11) failed to click wit the bat on Friday.
Mashrafe Mortaza picked up two wickets for Bangladesh.
