Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Friday sentenced journalist Jigna Vora, arrested in connection with the killing of senior Mid Day crime beat journalist J Dey, to police custody till Dec 1.

Vora has been charged under Section 120 (b) (conspiracy), 302 (murder) of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

The Mumbai-based scribe was arrested on Friday in connection to J Dey’s murder in June this year by the underworld, media reports said.

Vora works with an English daily and her arrest came as a shock to the media world.

A Chhota Rajan gang associate- Paulson Joseph- was also arrested earlier.

Known as J Dey more than his full name Jyotirmoy Dey, the assassinated scribe was receiving death threats from the underworld.

Dey, who was 56, received five bullet injuries on June 11 and then was rushed to Hiranandani Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The scribe, who used to write on the underworld, was considered a key resource person on the matter. He was the Editor, Investigations, in Mid Day.

Dey had penned books on the underworld. They are "Zero Dial: The Dangerous World of Informers" and "Khallas".

He previously worked with Indian Express and Hindustan Times.
