New Delhi: Platooned by the 2G scam that is rocking the Indian political scenario, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said he will ensure ‘more transparent’ procedures to safeguard the governance processes.

He was speaking at the inauguration of 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas here.

“We are examining seriously how to make systemic changes that ensure more transparent procedures and safeguards in our governance processes. I believe our democracy is sturdy, vibrant and has their own inbuilt mechanisms for redressal and course correction,” said the PM.

“We need to build consensus on far-reaching changes that may be required in processes of governance and in our legal or electoral systems. We are determined to work sincerely towards this end,” he said.

The Indian Parliament was deadlocked in the winter session last year over the demand for a JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee) into the 2G spectrum scam while the ruling Congress said the probe by the PAC of Parliament headed by an Opposition leader (Murli Manohar Joshi) was enough besides the investigations by agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The CAG in a report said former Telecom Minister A Raja 's policies cost the government close to 1.76 lakh crores. The report faulted Raja for undervaluing spectrum to favour companies who were largely ineligible for 2G spectrum.

Singh has already written to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), probing 2G spectrum allocation scam, that he is ready to appear before it and be quizzed.
