New Delhi: At least 27 people were injured after an under-construction foot overbridge collapsed near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue of the Commonwealth Games ( CWG) Games, here on Tuesday, prompting the Organizing Committee (OC) to cover up and say everything would be delivered on time.

According to reports, 27 labourers were injured, four of them critically, after the bridge collapsed while they were putting concrete mix at a part of the structure.

The bridge was to link the stadium to parking for delgates and athletes.

Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy said it is a ‘minor matter’.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has asked for a report from the builders.

Later the same day (Tuesday), Organising Committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot told reporters: "We will deliver everything.”

He said the venues would get ready in the coming days and there would be more cleaning up to meet the international standards.

However, the incident is a blow to the CWG organizers, who are already caught amid charges of corruption and mismanagement for the Oct 3-14 Games.

Earlier, Mike Hooper, chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), commenting on the state of cleanliness at the Games Village said the conditions are "filthy".
