A Mexican woman has been handed a 20-year prison term for her involvement in the violent robbery that preceded the killing of an American and two Australian surfers in Baja California in 2024.
The Baja California State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Ary Gisell Silva Raya pleaded guilty to charges of robbery with violence in the case linked to the deaths of Australian siblings Callum Ryan Robinson and Jake Martin Robinson, along with their American companion, Jack Carter Rhoad. The trio had travelled from California to surf along the rugged coast near Punta San Jose, as reported by Stuff
Authorities allege the surfers were ambushed, robbed and shot, before their bodies were disposed of in a remote well. Investigators located the remains in an isolated stretch roughly 80 kilometres south of Ensenada after an intensive search, Stuff reported.
Prosecutors said Silva Raya had approached the visitors and encouraged her associates to steal from them. She was identified as the partner of one of the three men accused of carrying out the killings. Those suspects are still in custody and awaiting trial, Stuff reported.
The case drew global attention, prompting fresh scrutiny of tourist safety in the region. Authorities say further inquiries are ongoing.
