Peddi director Buchi Babu Sana recently revealed that the role of Achiyamma, which is now being played by Janhvi Kapoor, was initially offered to her younger sister Khushi Kapoor. The filmmaker also explained why he eventually decided to cast Janhvi Kapoor instead as reported by NDTV.
According to NDTV, Buchi Babu Sana spoke candidly about the casting decision during an interaction with M9. He revealed that although he first narrated the script to Khushi Kapoor, he later realised that the character required someone with a slightly more mature screen presence.
"I initially narrated the film to Khushi Kapoor. But once I saw her in person, I realised she's too young for this character. Now imagine having to reject Khushi and then narrate the same role to Janhvi in the same home. I felt bad and asked Janhvi if Khushi would take offence," the director shared.
The filmmaker further justified his decision by explaining that certain creative choices are necessary for the overall vision of a film. According to NDTV, Buchi Babu Sana said he always visualised Janhvi Kapoor while developing the character of Achiyamma.
"I explained why I rejected her sister. I looked at Khushi, said hi, and told her, 'I don't want you in the film; I want your sister.' But such things need to be done for cinema. From the beginning, I just knew this role would suit Janhvi. Even as I narrated it to others, I would imagine her in the role," he added.
The upcoming film Peddi has already generated considerable excitement among audiences, especially after the release of its teaser featuring Ram Charan in a rugged and intense avatar.
According to NDTV, the teaser opens with a dramatic voiceover that says, "Kusthi (wrestling) is not a sport where you carry a bat and face an oncoming ball.
This is a sport where you pledge your life and stand against death. Now tell me, are you going to get into the ring or are you opting out?"
The glimpse video showcases Ram Charan practising with a mace while displaying a heavily transformed physique. The visuals indicate the actor’s intense physical preparation and commitment towards the role.
The teaser concludes with Ram Charan responding confidently to the challenge presented earlier in the voiceover. He declares, "The game is my pride."
Apart from Janhvi Kapoor in the female lead role, Peddi also features a strong supporting cast including Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani in significant roles.
According to NDTV, the film continues to build anticipation among fans due to its sports-drama backdrop, powerful cast lineup, and Ram Charan’s striking transformation for the role.
