Two off-duty Auckland police officers were investigated after becoming involved in a fight at a bar during a Christmas celebration.
According to a report by 1News, the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) said it oversaw the police investigation into the incident, which involved the two officers and members of the public.
According to the IPCA, the officers had been drinking with colleagues when one became involved in an altercation with two people at the same bar.
A second officer then intervened to defend his colleague.
The fight was quickly brought under control, but the first officer was knocked unconscious and required medical treatment, as reported by 1News.
Police conducted both a criminal investigation and an employment investigation following the incident.
The criminal investigation concluded that prosecution was not warranted. However, the subsequent employment process found one of the officers had committed misconduct, as reported by 1News.
The IPCA said it agreed with the decisions made by police and the outcome of the employment process.
Police have been approached for comment.
